In the anterior aesthetic zone, where every millimeter counts, implant and soft tissue management demand precision, timing, and artistry. The course “Surgery in the Aesthetic Area” offers a comprehensive approach to diagnosing and treating single or multiple edentulous cases—whether associated with minor or complex bone defects—through a clear, predictable, and evidence-based clinical pathway. Participants will explore how to achieve true aesthetic mimesis, ensuring harmony of papillae, parabolic symmetry, and natural soft tissue architecture.

About the program

The “Surgery in the Aesthetic Area” program provides clinicians with a structured diagnostic and therapeutic workflow designed to restore natural beauty and symmetry in the anterior zone. Through theoretical sessions, clinical reasoning, and practical exercises, participants will gain the ability to define therapeutic decision-making scales, manage bone and soft tissue regeneration, and coordinate surgical and prosthetic timing to achieve aesthetic integration and stability over time.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the diagnostic principles and clinical evaluation criteria for edentulous spaces in the anterior aesthetic region.

  2. Develop a clear decision-making framework for selecting appropriate therapeutic approaches in mono- and multi-edentulous cases.

  3. Learn to plan and execute combined surgical and prosthetic procedures aimed at achieving perfect aesthetic mimesis.

  4. Master the management of modest to severe bone defects through advanced regenerative and implant techniques.

  5. Acquire knowledge of precise operative timings and sequencing to ensure predictable and harmonious outcomes.

Day 1: Theoretical part on single missing tooth

  • Tissue phenotype: crossroads for the choice of the replacement procedure of a compromised dental element;
  • Post-extractive implants with immediate loading without any other additional surgical procedure: when is it possible?;
  • Post-extraction implants with immediate loading + connective grafting;
  • Socket preservation: with or without implant? With or without immediate loading?.
  • Socket regeneration: what kind of bone defects should it be applied to? With or without contextual system? Reflections on biomaterials and details on technique;
  • Socket Shield Technique: Indications, peculiarities, method, surgical and prosthetic measures;
  • How to treat and correct implant-prosthetic blemishes, of tissue relevance, around previously positioned implants, which are osteointegrated and already prosthetic.

Day 2: Theoretical part on multiple missing teeth

  • Designs of flaps to face a GBR in a front intercalated area: reflections on advantages and disadvantages that each design offers;
  • GBR with non-absorbable membranes in the aesthetic area: procedure and timing;
  • Increase in the thickness of soft tissues (connective graft) in the regenerated sites of the aesthetic areas: reconstruction of the pseudo-papilla;
  • When to proceed with the crestal connective graft? In second or third surgical stage?;
  • Restoration of fornix depth and ep-connective graft in the aesthetic area: how to avoid chromatic blemishes.

Hands-On & Practical Part

  • Epithelial-connectival harvesting technique, de-epithelialization technique and suture of the donor office;
  • Suture techniques for the stabilization of a connective tissue graft;
  • Preparation of a vascular bed receiving a connective tissue graft with the elevation of a half-thickness flap;
  • Repositioned alveolar mucosa suture technique;
  • How to stabilize a peri-implant free gingival graft: type of threads and suture method.

About the speaker

Dr. Marco Ronda earned his medical degree in 1990 from the University of Verona and has been practicing dentistry at his private clinic in Genoa ever since.

His postgraduate education includes an advanced surgery course led by Professor Massimo Simion in Milan and a Master’s course in Regenerative Surgical Techniques at the University of Pennsylvania. He regularly attends the American Academy of Implant Dentistry’s annual meetings and has completed multiple specialized courses in horizontal and vertical bone regeneration techniques. Additionally, he participates in the Continuing Dental Education program at the New York University College of Dentistry, Post Graduate, on an annual basis. At his clinic, he frequently conducts practical training sessions in implantology and bone regeneration techniques.
